Coe College - Aviation Flight Training
About
Coe College launched its Aviation Management and Flight Operations program in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in partnership with ATD Flight Systems and Eastern Iowa Airport (KCID), establishing one of Iowa's newest and most academically integrated aviation training programs. The program earned FAA Part 141 certification for both its ground school courses on Coe's campus and its flight training operations at CID, positioning it among the most formally structured aviation programs in the region.
Students in the program train alongside experienced instructors with ATD Flight Systems, which brings over 20 years of Part 141 flight training experience and FAA examining authority to the partnership. ATD's examining authority allows students to complete their practical tests on-site, reducing wait times for checkrides and accelerating the path to certification. Training aircraft are based at CID—one of Iowa's principal commercial and general aviation airports—giving students immediate access to controlled airspace, instrument approaches, and real-world operational complexity.
Upon completing the program, graduates earn both their FAA pilot certificates (Private Pilot through Commercial and Multi-Engine) and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Aviation Management. This dual academic and practical credential is specifically valued by major airlines and aviation employers, creating stronger career prospects than flight training alone. Coe's program reflects a growing national movement to combine rigorous liberal arts education with professional flight training in a single, cohesive degree path.
