Janice Wray Walton, known professionally as Jan Walton, is a cornerstone of the Iowa aviation community with a career spanning over four decades. In 1981, she co-founded P&N Flight & Charter in Marion, Iowa, alongside her late husband, Perry. Since then, she has been instrumental in training generations of pilots, growing the school into a premier flight training destination in the Midwest. Operating primarily out of Marion Airport (C17), she serves as a highly respected FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and a long-time instructor at Kirkwood Community College.
With thousands of flight hours and a prestigious Master CFI designation, Walton holds Commercial and Flight Instructor certificates for Single-Engine Land, Multi-Engine Land, and Rotorcraft-Helicopter. Her excellence in the field was nationally recognized when she was named the NAFI Flight Instructor of the Year in 2006. She possesses a unique specialization in helicopter operations, famously noting her preference for flying with the doors off, yet she remains equally dedicated to fixed-wing instruction and ground school education.
As an examiner, Walton is known for her meticulous attention to detail and a safety-first mindset that emphasizes literal adherence to FAA standards. Her reputation for thoroughness ensures that every pilot she evaluates is fully prepared for the complexities of the National Airspace System. Throughout her long tenure, she has maintained an impeccable safety record, focusing her efforts on professional development and the mentorship of aspiring aviators across both airplane and rotorcraft categories.
