Janice Wray Walton, frequently known as Jan Walton, operates out of the Marion Airport (C17) in Marion, Iowa, where she conducts Private Pilot practical tests in single-engine land airplanes. She holds the Master Certificated Flight Instructor (MCFI) designation and was named the 2006 FAA Central Region's Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year. Walton co-owned and operated P&N Flight Charter alongside her late husband, Perry James Walton, with whom she developed the Marion Airport by adding an asphalt runway and multiple enclosed hangars. In addition to representing the Marion aviation community at state planning meetings, Walton's history at the airport includes safely navigating a forced landing in a Cessna 172 near Central City in 2001. During the late 1990s and 2000s, her tenure at the airport was also known for the presence of a pair of mountain lions kept on-site, one of which she occasionally brought into her office.
