About
The Elmendorf Aero Club operates as the official aero club of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage, Alaska, providing affordable Part 141 flight training exclusively to the military community. Membership is open to active-duty service members, retirees, DoD civilians, National Guard and Reserve personnel, and their dependents who hold valid base access credentials.
The club's fleet includes Cessna 172s, Cessna 172RGs, and Cessna 182s — reliable, well-maintained trainers well suited to Alaska's variable weather and terrain. The Part 141 syllabus combines approximately 35 hours of ground instruction with at least 35 hours of flight training, offering a structured path to a Private Pilot certificate. Instrument Rating training is also available for club members wishing to advance their skills.
Monthly membership fees are modest, and hourly rental rates are significantly lower than typical civilian schools, making it one of the most cost-effective ways for military-affiliated pilots to earn or maintain their certificates. The club is based at JBER's flight line and offers an unmatched opportunity to experience Alaska's spectacular aviation environment while serving.
