Alyeska Helicopters
About
Alyeska Helicopters is Anchorage's dedicated helicopter flight school, operating from Merrill Field Airport at 1710 East 5th Avenue and offering comprehensive rotary-wing training under both FAA Part 61 and Part 141. The school is VA-approved, making it accessible to veterans and active-duty military pursuing aviation careers, and its Part 141 certification also supports international students on M-1 visas and students seeking federal financial aid.
The school's fleet consists of three Robinson R-22s and one Robinson R-44 — the workhorses of civilian helicopter training worldwide. The R-22's light, responsive handling makes it ideal for initial certificate work, while the R-44's four-seat cabin and hydraulically assisted controls prepare advanced students for the larger machines they will fly in professional operations. Instructors bring more than 25 years of Alaska helicopter experience, including high-altitude and mountainous terrain flying.
Alyeska Helicopters offers a complete professional pilot pathway from Private Pilot certificate through Commercial Pilot, Instrument Rating, CFI, and CFII. The school's one-on-one instruction model ensures personalized training tailored to each student's goals, whether recreational flying or an airline-track helicopter career.
