About

Auburn University's School of Aviation is one of the most highly regarded collegiate flight programs in the United States, ranked second in the nation for 2023 by College Transitions based on peer reputation, unique programs, and career connections. Operating from Auburn University Regional Airport (KAUO), the school trains students under FAA Part 141 regulations within Auburn's College of Liberal Arts, offering a B.S. in Professional Flight.

The fleet comprises 35 Garmin G1000-equipped Cessna 172SP Skyhawks for primary and instrument training, plus four Piper PA-44-180 Seminoles for multi-engine instruction, all maintained to airline-industry standards. Students progress through Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, Multi-Engine, CFI, CFII, and MEI certificates as part of a structured four-to-five-year degree program. Auburn is an FAA-authorized R-ATP institution, meaning graduates qualify for Airline Transport Pilot eligibility with as few as 1,000 total flight hours.

The program maintains strong airline partnerships and career placement resources, making it a top choice for pilots targeting major airline careers. The school is led by Director of Flight Education David Bottomlee, and can be reached at 334-844-1942 or through Auburn's College of Liberal Arts at 2150 Bent Creek Road, Auburn, AL 36830.
