About Michael Jesch

Michael Jesch is a distinguished aviator and FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) based in Orange, California, with a professional flying career spanning over 40 years. Inspired by his father’s work on the Apollo project, Jesch earned his private pilot certificate at age 17 and has since accumulated more than 25,000 flight hours. He currently serves as a senior Captain on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for American Airlines, where he conducts long-haul oceanic operations. His vast experience includes type ratings in the Boeing 737, 757, 767, 777, and 787, as well as a background flying the Swearingen Metroliner and Boeing 727.

In addition to his airline career, Jesch is a prominent leader in the general aviation community as a Master Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII/MEI) and the 2026 National FAASTeam Representative of the Year. He specializes in instrument instruction, complex avionics, and multi-engine training, frequently teaching at the Pilot Proficiency Center during EAA AirVenture.
