Jon Kenneth Brown is a preeminent figure in Florida aviation, particularly known for his lifelong leadership at Jack Brown’s Seaplane Base in Winter Haven and Auburndale. With over 28,000 flight hours—nearly 19,000 of which were logged in the iconic Piper J-3 Cub—Brown has dedicated more than four decades to pilot training and evaluation. He became an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) in 1975, a role he assumed following the tragic passing of his father, Jack Brown, in an aviation accident. Since then, he has conducted over 18,000 practical examinations, establishing himself as one of the most prolific and respected examiners in the Orlando FSDO region.
Holding an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with single and multi-engine land and sea ratings, Brown’s expertise is sought after by a diverse range of aviators, from celebrity enthusiasts to professional airline and military pilots. His commitment to aviation safety is deeply personal and professionally recognized; in 2000, he received an award from the Orlando FSDO for his promotion of the Sea WINGS safety program. Beyond his technical proficiency, Brown’s career is defined by his commitment to maintaining his family’s legacy, ensuring that the highest standards of airmanship and risk management are instilled in every pilot he evaluates.
