Dr. Janeen Adrion Kochan is a highly respected FAA Designated Pilot Examiner and aviation human factors expert based in Winter Haven, Florida. With an aviation career spanning over four decades and more than 20,000 flight hours, she holds an Airline Transport Pilot certificate with numerous type ratings, including the Boeing 767, 757, DC-8, and DC-9. Dr. Kochan’s extensive operational background includes serving as a captain and Crew Resource Management instructor for a major U.S. airline, as well as experience flying night freight and vintage aircraft like the B-24 Liberator and Grumman Goose.
Beyond the cockpit, Dr. Kochan is a renowned academic and researcher holding a Ph.D. in Applied Experimental and Human Factors Psychology. Her career is defined by a profound commitment to safety, rooted in her early desire to understand the psychological factors behind aviation accidents. She has served as a research scientist for NASA and was instrumental in developing the FAA’s Airman Certification Standards (ACS).
