Joel Allen Borton is a highly accomplished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and corporate aviation leader based in Bowling Green, Ohio. An alumnus of Bowling Green State University, Borton’s career in aviation began at the Wood County Regional Airport, where he worked in line service and maintenance before ascending through the ranks as a flight instructor and eventually Chief Flight Instructor. Currently, he serves as a Safety Officer and Captain for Masco Corporation while managing his own firm, JB Aviation, LLC, through which he conducts pilot certifications for various ratings.
Borton holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and is a multi-engine rated flight instructor (MEI) and Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot (CSIP). His extensive experience is highlighted by a deep specialization in multi-engine operations and corporate flight safety. In 2025, Borton’s emergency management skills were put to the test during a commercial checkride when he successfully executed a forced landing in a bean field following a simulated engine failure. His quick actions prevented serious injury and underscored his reputation as a safety-conscious examiner. With thousands of flight hours and a commitment to rigorous training standards, Borton remains a pivotal figure in Northwest Ohio's aviation community.
