SOUTHERN SEAPLANE INC
About
Southern Seaplane Inc has been operating from its base on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Belle Chasse, Louisiana since 1954, making it one of the oldest continuously operating seaplane businesses in the United States. Today the largest seaplane operation in the entire Gulf South, Southern Seaplane operates a diverse fleet of floatplanes capable of accommodating individual students or groups seeking the unique experience of water-based flight. The school's FAA Part 141 certificated seaplane training program is designed to develop the specialized skills needed for water operations, going well beyond the minimum requirements for a seaplane rating. Southern Seaplane's signature three-day course combines ground school, underwater egress training — critical for offshore and coastal operations — and flight instruction, producing pilots trained to charter seaplane operator standards rather than the minimums required for a private add-on rating. All courses are Part 141 approved and ratings are available in any aircraft in the fleet. In addition to training, Southern Seaplane offers charter flights over the Louisiana bayou country, coastal wetlands, and New Orleans itself, providing scenic tours that double as informal orientation flights for prospective students.
