Sanders Flight Training Center

About

Sanders Flight Training Center was founded in 1996 by Joseph Gordon "Gordo" Sanders Jr. and has grown into one of Alabama's premier accelerated flight training operations, with campuses at Walker County Airport/Bevill Field (KJFX) in Jasper, Tuscaloosa, and Huntsville. As a veteran-owned and operated school, Sanders has built a specialty in military-to-airline transition programs alongside its civilian training curriculum. The school is GI Bill-approved and operates seven days a week to eliminate scheduling delays.

The Jasper headquarters serves as the primary training hub, with a fleet of more than 30 modern IFR-equipped aircraft, a full-service FBO, and an on-site FAA Designated Pilot Examiner — one of the few flight schools in the region with an in-house DPE, which allows students to schedule practical tests without long wait times. Sanders' Part 141 accelerated structure is designed to move students through the curriculum efficiently: Private Pilot in as little as 8 weeks, Instrument Rating in 4 weeks, and Commercial Pilot in approximately 3 months of full-time training.

Sanders Aviation's career-focused programs extend from the Private Pilot certificate through Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, CFI, and ATP, with a specialized Military Competency to ATP pathway tailored to rotary-wing and fixed-wing veterans transitioning to airline careers. The school's combination of accelerated scheduling, maintenance staff, and on-site DPE makes it a preferred choice for pilots in the Alabama region pursuing airline careers on a tight timeline.
