About

Bridgewater State University's Department of Aviation Science occupies a unique position in Northeast aviation education as the only institution in the region offering a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Science. Flight training is conducted under FAA Part 141 certification at the Aviation Training Center at New Bedford Regional Airport (KEWB), approximately 30 minutes from the Bridgewater campus. Students pursuing the Professional Pilot concentration progress from private pilot training through commercial and multi-engine ratings, while those in the Aviation Management concentration focus on the business and operational side of the industry. The department's fleet includes Cessna single-engine trainers and Piper Seminole twins for multi-engine instruction, supplemented by two Redbird LD AATDs and a Redbird FMX full-motion simulator for instrument training. BSU Aviation also runs a noncredit flight training program through its Office of Continuing and Distance Education, opening professional-quality instruction to the broader community. Graduates of BSU's Part 141 program may qualify for the Restricted ATP certificate, and the program's accreditation and industry relationships create strong pathways for graduates entering the aviation workforce in New England and beyond.
