Shane Lipson

Shane Lipson began flying in 2000 following a discovery flight around the Statue of Liberty in New York City. Based in El Paso, Texas, he works as an independent flight instructor and a Check Instructor at Red Arrow Flight Academy in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Lipson personally holds Commercial Pilot (Airplane Single-Engine Land), Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) certificates. As an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, he conducts Private, Commercial, Instrument, and CFI practical tests in single-engine airplanes, in addition to performing administrative services such as foreign pilot conversions, military competency evaluations, and flight instructor renewals. An active volunteer, Lipson joined the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) after the September 11 terrorist attacks and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has served the CAP Texas Wing as a check pilot, Stan/Eval Officer, Alerting Officer, and as the coordinator for the Shirley Martin Powered Flight Academy in June 2026. Outside of aviation, Lipson earned a dual degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998, followed by a Doctorate of Medicine from the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in 2020. He also has an extensive business background in commercial insurance, co-founding Mt. Franklin Insurance and founding Lipson Physician Insurance in El Paso.
