Rainer Gades is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) based in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area, serving the Troutdale, Newberg, and Portland regions under the Portland Flight Standards District Office (FSDO). Active as a DPE since 2015, Gades is strictly authorized to examine in helicopters (rotorcraft) and does not conduct airplane checkrides. His model-specific testing authorizations include the Robinson R-22, R-44, and R-66, as well as the Guimbal Cabri G2.
His examination and administrative services cover Private, Commercial, Instrument Rating, and Flight Instructor (CFI) certificates for helicopters, as well as Robinson SFAR 73 qualifications, CFI renewals, Part 141 graduate certifications, military competency certificates, ground instructor certificates, and foreign pilot certificate conversions. Gades is a former flight instructor at Hillsboro Aero Academy, where he has also participated as an industry speaker. Outside of testing, he operates Aviation Address, a service providing FAA-compliant mailing addresses for international pilots, and participates in civic advocacy in Oregon.
