Johnny Joe Henley has been conducting practical exams as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner under the Greensboro FSDO since March 2006. Based in the Trenton and New Bern area of North Carolina, Henley previously flew transport aircraft for professional NASCAR racing teams. He holds a Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) rating and Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic credentials with Inspection Authorization (IA).
Henley operates in connection with Tidewater Air Services at Coastal Carolina Regional Airport (KEWN) in New Bern. He also owns and operates Henley Aviation, LLC, at Kinston Regional Jetport (KISO), which has served as the flight training partner for Lenoir Community College's aviation program. Henley conducts Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Instrument Rating, and Flight Instructor (CFI) checkrides in single-engine land airplanes.
In March 2006, Henley was recognized for his safety oversight during an emergency landing when a Cessna 150 experienced engine issues during a checkride, resulting in a safe off-field landing in a cotton field with zero injuries. He is also acknowledged for his support in the flight training textbook 'Flying & Learning: Basics for Every Pilot' by William P. Heitman.
