John Brent Mclaughlin brings a unique background of military aviation, civilian flight instruction, and professional meteorology to his role as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. Based in Greene County, Iowa, Mclaughlin conducts Private, Commercial, Instrument, and Flight Instructor (CFI) practical tests in single-engine and multi-engine land airplanes, primarily operating out of Carroll Municipal Airport (KCIN) and Estherville Municipal Airport. A former Army National Guard pilot and FAA Aviation Safety Inspector, he holds commercial pilot privileges, works as a flight instructor (CFI, CFII, MEI, and Sport Pilot Instructor), flies a Cessna Citation jet for a local company, and serves as an associate broker and regional ferry pilot for SkyBound Partners. Notably, Mclaughlin spent thirty years as a broadcast meteorologist, serving as Chief Meteorologist for KCCI-TV in Des Moines and as President of the National Weather Association. He merged his passions for weather and aviation by collaborating with Baron Weather to co-develop SiriusXM Cockpit Weather, piloting his own Piper Seneca III near thunderstorms to test real-time satellite radar technology.
