Jeffrey Cook is a Bozeman, Montana-based Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) who has accumulated more than 10,000 hours of helicopter flight experience. Operating professionally as Jeff Cook out of Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), he is a helicopter-only specialist and does not conduct airplane checkrides. His DPE authority is focused strictly on rotorcraft, including type and model exams for the AS-350, AS-350B3, MD-500, MD-500-N, and CH-47D. Aside from examining, Cook is a pilot for Lone Mountain Helicopters and has a diverse commercial career that includes flying wildland firefighting missions for the U.S. Forest Service, assisting air ambulance teams, and executing heavy-lift utility flights. In 2017, he partnered with Billings Flying Service to fly precision-setting operations for power poles weighing over 20,000 pounds. His precision flying in the Rocky Mountain region has also transitioned to the screen, where he has served as a pilot for productions such as Yellowstone, Tenet, and Need for Speed. Active as an examiner since at least mid-2020, he collaborates on regional checkrides and events like Helicopter Institute NVG checks. Outside of aviation, Cook is an outdoorsman who enjoys camping, fishing, and big-game hunting in the Montana wilderness with his family and hounds.
