With an examining career starting around 1982, Wentzville, Missouri-based examiner Daniel Reed has served the aviation community for nearly four decades. Holding airline transport pilot, commercial, private, and instrument ratings for both single-engine and multi-engine land airplanes, Reed primarily conducts practical tests and educational seminars around the Greater St. Louis area, including Creve Coeur Airport and Spirit of St. Louis Airport. He is a frequent speaker at FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) seminars co-sponsored by the St. Louis FSDO and the Greater St. Louis Flight Instructor Association, where he addresses critical topics like checkride expectations, Airman Certification Standards (ACS), and maneuvering regulations.
In addition to his work as an examiner, Reed has held major leadership roles within regional airline operations. He served as the Vice President of Flight Operations for Trans States Airlines until late 2004, before transitioning to GoJet Airlines in 2005 as its Director of Operations and Vice President of Flight Operations. He later managed flight operations as Vice President for Trans States Holdings, the parent company of Trans States Airlines, GoJet, and Compass Airlines.
His administrative career includes involvement in the landmark federal employment case E.E.O.C. v. Trans States Airlines, Inc. In late 2001, Reed acted on an anonymous safety tip to terminate a probationary pilot for conduct violations, a safety-focused decision that was ultimately upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
