UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE
About
The University of Dubuque Aviation Program is one of the Midwest's most comprehensive collegiate flight training programs, operating from the Dubuque Regional Airport (KDBQ) and offering a Bachelor of Science in Flight Operations under FAA Part 141 and Part 61 certification. With a fleet of 21 Cessna 172S Skyhawk SPs—all equipped with Garmin G-1000 glass cockpit avionics—the school ensures every student trains with the same advanced avionics found in modern commercial aircraft.
The flight training fleet is supplemented by three Piper PA-44 Seminoles for multi-engine instruction and two Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopters, which are among the most technologically advanced light training helicopters available and feature a modern glass cockpit with a Garmin G500H avionics suite. This combination allows students to pursue fixed-wing, multi-engine, and helicopter ratings within a single program. The university also maintains virtual reality training devices to enhance helicopter training and procedural practice.
The University of Dubuque's aviation program prepares graduates for professional aviation careers through a curriculum combining rigorous academic coursework with intensive flight training. The program's Part 141 certification ensures students can qualify for reduced-hour ATP certificates, and the school maintains active relationships with regional airlines and corporate aviation operators to facilitate career placement for graduates.
