Weston Hale Thompson is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and seasoned aviation professional based in the Wichita, Kansas region. A graduate of Kansas State University’s aviation program in Salina, Thompson earned degrees in Professional Pilot and Aviation Maintenance in 2004 and 2006. His dual background as both a high-time pilot and a certified mechanic has shaped a career defined by technical precision and a deep understanding of aircraft systems. He is currently a co-owner of Scott City Aviation, where he oversees flight operations, instruction, and maintenance services for the regional aviation community.
With thousands of flight hours and decades of experience, Thompson holds several advanced FAA certifications, including Commercial Pilot, Multi-Engine Land, and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII). His appointment as a DPE through the Wichita Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) allows him to conduct practical tests for Private, Commercial, and Instrument ratings. He is also a licensed Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA), providing him with a unique safety perspective that bridges the gap between mechanical integrity and pilot performance.
