Troy Macvey

Troy Macvey is a distinguished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and the founder of Mac’s Seaplane Service, based in Milan, Indiana. With an aviation career spanning over three decades, Macvey’s journey began as a teenager in Ames, Iowa, where he progressed from menial airport tasks to becoming an accomplished A&P mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA). He later transitioned into the professional airline sector, spending 12 years as a commercial pilot for Comair in Cincinnati before retiring to focus on general aviation and specialized flight training.

An Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and Gold Seal Flight Instructor, Macvey is widely recognized for his expertise in seaplane and tailwheel operations. He holds ratings for Single and Multi-Engine Sea (SES/MES) and Land, and he frequently administers checkrides across the Midwest. His business, Mac’s Seaplane Service, gained notoriety as a unique water-based operation on the Ohio River. Known for his safety-oriented mindset and meticulous attention to detail, Macvey leverages his background as both an experienced mechanic and former airline captain to provide a thorough and fair evaluation experience for aspiring aviators.
