Sonjia Marie Johnston Baer is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner based in Paso Robles, California, who conducts practical tests for Private Pilot applicants. Growing up around her grandfather's small airplane, she represents a family with multi-generational aviation roots, including her late father, Peter "Pete" Johnston, who was an active local pilot and volunteer. She began her own flying journey at age 23 at the Paso Robles Airport (KPRB), eventually working as a flight instructor in San Jose before returning to Paso Robles in 1998. Today, she runs the training business "Learn To Fly In Paso Robles" and has over 30 years of flight instruction experience. Although her career history includes past multi-engine instruction and a 2006 ATP certificate claim, her current active FAA certifications on record are private, commercial, and instrument ratings restricted to airplane-single-engine-land (ASEL). Consequently, her active flight and testing privileges are focused strictly on single-engine land airplanes.
