Shane Vande Voort is a distinguished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and the owner of Classic Aviation, Inc., based at the Pella Municipal Airport (KPEA) in Iowa. A second-generation aviator, Vande Voort has been immersed in the industry since high school, eventually taking over the Pella FBO in 1999. With over 25 years of experience as an aviation educator, he has achieved the prestigious Master Instructor accreditation eleven times, a testament to his long-term commitment to professional excellence. His background is unique, combining high-level pilot skills with technical expertise as a licensed A&P mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA).
Holding an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and multiple type ratings in business jets like the Citation and Learjet, Shane’s expertise spans from vintage taildraggers to technically advanced aircraft. He is a prominent member of the Cirrus Standardized Instructor Program (CSIP) and serves as an FAASTeam Lead Representative. Recognized as the 2010 Flight Instructor of the Year and Safety Representative of the Year by the Des Moines FSDO, Shane maintains an exemplary safety record. As a DPE, he conducts a wide range of checkrides—from Sport Pilot to ATP—leveraging his deep understanding of airmanship to foster a culture of safety throughout the Midwest aviation community.
