Scott Bruce Tinnesand operates in association with Quantum Helicopters in Chandler, Arizona, bringing a deep background in military, emergency medical, and experimental helicopter operations to his role as an examiner. Tinnesand conducts private, commercial, instrument, and flight instructor checkrides in helicopters. His career in rotary-wing aviation began on June 15, 1988, with a flight in a Hughes 300C at the University of North Dakota, where he completed his helicopter training through the U.S. Army ROTC program. He went on to serve eight years on active duty in the U.S. Army, flying the AH-1 Cobra and AH-64 Apache, concluding his service with the 101st Airborne Division. Following his military career, Tinnesand flew as an emergency medical services pilot under Part 135 in Arizona and worked as an experimental test pilot and instructor for gyroplane manufacturer Groen Brothers Aviation, where he earned commercial gyroplane and gyroplane flight instructor ratings. Today, he works as a Lead Experimental Test Pilot and Flight Instructor for a vertical lift division in Mesa, Arizona, testing systems on the AH-64E Apache, A/MH-6M, and AH-6 Little Bird. Recognized for his contributions to aviation safety and instruction, Tinnesand received the 2022 Helicopter Association International W.A. 'Dub' Blessing Flight Instructor of the Year Award, marking over 33 years of accident-free flying.
