Richard “Rick” Wallace is a distinguished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and aviation safety advocate based in Girdwood, Alaska. His aviation journey began in the military, where he transitioned from the infantry to fly helicopters during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Wallace built an illustrious career in commercial aviation, serving for 25 years as a Boeing 747 Captain for a major international carrier and later spending six years as an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector. With over 22,000 total flight hours, he brings an unparalleled depth of experience to the checkride environment.
Currently a Lead Representative for the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) in the Alaskan Region, Wallace is a prominent figure in the state’s pilot community. His expertise encompasses Private, Commercial, Instrument, and Multi-Engine certifications, with a particular specialization in the demanding mountain flying common to the Chugach Range. Wallace is highly regarded for prioritizing real-world risk management and "Alaska-style" decision-making over mere technical memorization.
