Randal Wilson

Randal "Randy" Wilson is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner based in Chandler, Arizona, operating under the Scottsdale Flight Standards District Office. His FAA examining authority is strictly limited to helicopters, and he does not conduct airplane checkrides. Serving as a rotorcraft examiner, Wilson is authorized to administer checkrides for Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, and Instrument Ratings in helicopters. Professionally, Wilson is a retired Lieutenant from the Mesa Police Department who was rehired in April 2020 as the civilian Police Aviation Administrator. In this role, which he held through at least mid-2025, he manages the Mesa Police Heliport (08AZ) at Falcon Field and co-introduced the city's Drone as a First Responder program in June 2025. Additionally, Wilson works with the FAA Safety Team to organize the Annual Mesa Police Department Helicopter Safety Fly-In, coordinating its 20th annual event in March 2023 to promote regional rotorcraft safety.
