Scott Rohlfing is a highly respected FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and Gold Seal Flight Instructor based in the San Jose FSDO, frequently serving the San Carlos (KSQL) and Palo Alto (KPAO) airports. Coming from a legacy of aviation—his father was a WWII B-25 pilot—Rohlfing spent nearly 20 years in senior management within the Silicon Valley tech sector, including a decade leading Apple’s worldwide training organization. He transitioned to professional aviation full-time in 2001, becoming a corporate pilot in 2005 and eventually an examiner. He has since amassed over 6,500 hours of dual instruction and conducted approximately 1,000 practical tests.

Specializing in Single-Engine Land (SEL) certifications for Private, Commercial, and Instrument ratings, Rohlfing is known for a rigorous, "old school" approach that prioritizes aeronautical decision-making and safety. Often referred to by the nickname "The Pink Slip" for his high standards, he is widely regarded as a fair evaluator for applicants who demonstrate thorough preparation and adherence to Airman Certification Standards (ACS). His safety mindset is further informed by over 20 years of experience as a Civil Air Patrol Incident Commander and Search and Rescue (SAR) pilot. Beyond testing, he is an active advocate for general aviation and frequently conducts seminars on safety and checkride proficiency.
