Quay Carlton Snyder

Dr. Quay Carlton Snyder is a highly distinguished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner and Aerospace Medicine specialist based in the Elbert and Monument area of Colorado. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Snyder’s career represents a unique intersection of professional aviation and clinical expertise. He served for 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, and Reserve as a flight surgeon and instructor pilot, eventually retiring as a senior physician. Today, he is widely recognized as the President and CEO of the Aviation Medicine Advisory Service (AMAS), where he serves as a primary aeromedical advisor for major pilot unions, including ALPA.

With over 2,800 flight hours in 48 different aircraft types, ranging from gliders to the F-16, Dr. Snyder brings immense operational depth to his role as an examiner. He has been a certified flight instructor since 1975 and is one of a select few pilots worldwide to have earned the Master CFI designation nine times. Throughout his extensive career, he has maintained an impeccable safety record, channeling his expertise into over 100 published articles on aviation safety and human factors. As a DPE, he is known for a rigorous and fair evaluation style that emphasizes risk management and the physiological aspects of flight safety, ensuring all candidates meet the highest standards of the Federal Aviation Administration.
