Paul Klomhaus is a distinguished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and veteran aviator based in Superior, Wisconsin. His aviation career began in 1991, leading to a flight instructor rating by 1992. Over the decades, Paul successfully navigated the industry’s fluctuations by balancing his passion for flight with a secondary career in residential remodeling. He eventually gained extensive operational experience flying cargo in the Cessna 208 Caravan and Fairchild Metroliner before transitioning to regional and major carriers, including Air Wisconsin and SkyWest. Today, he has logged over 11,000 flight hours across more than 60 different aircraft types, holding an ATP certificate with type ratings in the CL-65, B757, and B767.
Operating primarily out of Richard I. Bong Memorial Airport (KSUW), Paul now provides full-time DPE services for the Minneapolis FSDO. His expertise spans Private, Commercial, and Multi-Engine ratings, supplemented by a significant background in training pilots for Cirrus Aircraft. Having previously held ETOPS 180 and Cat 3A autoland certifications, Paul brings a rigorous, high-level safety mindset to every practical test. He is widely recognized for using comprehensive scenario-based evaluations, ensuring that every candidate he certificates possesses the critical decision-making skills required for the complexities of the modern national airspace system.
