Paul Edward Nuwer is a highly experienced FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and flight instructor based in Cambridge, Maryland. With an aviation career spanning over four decades, he began his journey in the Civil Air Patrol in 1975. Nuwer is widely recognized for his specialized expertise in warbird operations, particularly as an instructor and check airman for the North American B-25 Mitchell. He has logged over 1,200 hours in the iconic B-25 "Panchito" and serves as a lead pilot for the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation, where he oversees the Second-in-Command (SIC) training program and conducts type rating checkrides.
Beyond his work with historical aircraft, Nuwer has a distinguished professional background in aerial application. He served as the Chief Pilot and Administrator for the Maryland Department of Agriculture's Mosquito Control program for more than 15 years. This role required exceptional precision and a rigorous safety mindset while managing complex spray operations across the Eastern Shore's wetlands. His commitment to safety and education is further evidenced by his role as a regular contributor to FAA safety briefings and his participation in high-profile events, such as the Doolittle Raiders reunions and national WWII flyovers.
Nuwer holds a comprehensive suite of certifications, including Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and Gold Seal Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII, MEI) ratings. As a DPE, he is authorized to conduct practical tests for Private, Commercial, Instrument, and Multi-Engine candidates. His specialized knowledge in both modern regulatory standards and vintage radial-engine aircraft makes him a respected figure in the Mid-Atlantic aviation community, dedicated to preserving aviation history while mentoring the next generation of safe, professional pilots.
