Neil Lee Jones

Neil Lee Jones is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner based in Chandler, Arizona, operating primarily out of Chandler Municipal Airport (KCHD). Jones holds DPE examining authority solely in the helicopter category and does not conduct airplane checkrides. Over an examining career of more than 25 years, he has administered over 3,500 practical tests. His aviation background spans over 35 years, beginning in 1986 as a flight instructor at Arizona Wing and Rotor, and later serving as Chief Pilot for the largest civilian helicopter flight school in the United States. In 1993, he founded Quantum Helicopters with a single Robinson R22, growing it over three decades into an institution with 17 aircraft, training approximately 4,000 pilots. After selling the flight school in late 2024 to Terry Blakemore, Jones transitioned to Chief Operating Officer. He also established key partnerships with Dodge City Community College in 2017 and Mission One Eleven in 2016. An advocate for helicopter safety, Jones was selected in 2024 for Robinson Helicopter Company's safety and standards course and has endorsed the HeliTrak Collective Pull-Down safety device. Outside of aviation, he has been married to his high school sweetheart for over 40 years, has grandchildren, and follows the San Francisco Giants.
