Morris William Ray

Morris William Ray, commonly known as “Dr. Ray,” is a distinguished aviation authority in the Memphis region, currently serving as a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) based at General DeWitt Spain Airport. Ray’s professional background is unique; he is a retired neurosurgeon who effectively bridged the worlds of medicine and flight. This dual expertise led him to serve as an FAA Aeromedical Examiner and a consultant on complex neurological certification cases for the FAA. A multi-year Memphis FSDO Flight Instructor of the Year, he was eventually inducted into the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame for his lifelong contributions to pilot education and safety.

With over 20,000 flight hours, Ray holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and is a seasoned specialist in aerobatics and vintage warbirds, including the T-6 Texan and Stearman.
