Michael Wiley Bowser is a highly experienced FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and flight instructor based at the Wellsboro Johnston Airport (N38) in Pennsylvania. His aviation journey began in the late 1960s at Montana State University, where he worked various airport positions to fund his early training. By 1970, he earned his commercial license, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aviation from Southeastern State University in 1971. Bowser’s early career included tenures as a commuter airline pilot, charter pilot, and flight instructor, ultimately leading him to obtain the Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, the FAA’s highest rating, which he has maintained for over forty years.
In a unique career transition, Bowser earned a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977 and operated a successful dental practice in York, Pennsylvania, for four decades. Despite his medical career, he remained an active flight instructor throughout the 1990s. After retiring from dentistry in 2017, he returned to Wellsboro to focus entirely on aviation. Today, he serves as a vital asset to the Tioga County aviation community, specializing in Private, Commercial, and Instrument checkrides. His dual background in professional aviation and medicine underscores a meticulous, safety-first approach to pilot certification and training.
