Matthew William Goodwin, frequently known as "Goody," is the owner and operator of The Helicopter School, LLC, based out of the Galaxy FBO at the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport (KCXO) in Conroe, Texas. He transitioned to aviation in 2007 after earning a bachelor's degree in psychology from Arizona State University and working in banking and real estate. Choosing flight instruction to build his career, he has accumulated over 7,000 accident-free hours instructing and flying in helicopters. He identifies as a "helicopter teacher" to emphasize safety and student development. In 2017, the Robinson Helicopter Company contracted him to instruct at the Robinson Factory Safety Course, and he holds SFAR 73 qualifications for Robinson R-22 and R-44 models. Appointed as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner in 2019, Goodwin personally holds helicopter ATP and CFII ratings. He conducts private, commercial, instrument, ATP, and flight instructor practical tests in helicopters, and he is authorized to handle administrative duties such as military competency certifications and foreign pilot conversions.
