About Matthew Franklin Binner

Matthew Franklin Binner is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) based in Henderson, Nevada, who operates as Matt Binner Home under the Las Vegas Flight Standards District Office (FSDO). Binner's examining privileges are strictly limited to the helicopter category, meaning he does not conduct practical tests for airplanes. His FAA certifications on record include private, commercial, instrument, and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII) ratings, exclusively within the rotorcraft-helicopter category.

Binner's career in helicopter aviation began in 2004, and he relocated his activities to the Las Vegas area in 2007. His experience includes flying commercial Grand Canyon helicopter tours, working as a Lead CFI, and serving as a 14 CFR Part 135 check airman. He is the founder, president, and owner of Airwork Las Vegas, Inc., a flight school and fixed-base operator (FBO) headquartered at the North Las Vegas Airport (KVGT). He also owns Binner Enterprises LLC, an entity that registers and leases fleet aircraft—including Robinson R22 and R44 helicopters, and Cessna 172 airplanes—to Airwork Las Vegas.

Two fatal accidents have occurred involving aircraft registered to Binner's leasing entity and operated by his flight school. In October 2019, an Airwork Las Vegas-operated Robinson R44 experienced an in-flight engine power loss and crashed near Red Rock Canyon. In July 2022, an Airwork Cessna 172 was involved in a fatal mid-air collision with a Piper PA-46 on approach to KVGT. In April 2025, Binner filed a lawsuit against the United States under the Federal Tort Claims Act, alleging air traffic control negligence during the 2022 collision. Outside of his commercial operations, Binner participates in the Las Vegas FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam), co-hosting local safety seminars to help applicants prepare for helicopter checkrides and learn local operations.
