Janusz Abczynski

Janusz "John" Abczynski is a highly regarded FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) based in Oklahoma, serving the Stillwater and Tulsa regions. His extraordinary aviation journey began in Poland, where he was an air force trainee with experience in MiG-15 and MiG-17 jets. In a dramatic 1982 escape from the Communist regime, Abczynski fled to the West via a daring helicopter flight across the border, eventually settling in the United States. Since then, he has dedicated over four decades to American aviation, building a reputation as a disciplined and knowledgeable mentor for the next generation of aviators.

As an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and Gold Seal Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII/MEI), Abczynski has accumulated thousands of flight hours across diverse aircraft. Before becoming a DPE, he served for many years as a senior instructor at the Spartan School of Aeronautics. He currently specializes in conducting practical tests for Private, Commercial, Instrument, and Multi-Engine ratings. His examination style is defined by a profound emphasis on safety and procedural integrity, reflecting a safety mindset forged through his rigorous military training and his own historic survival experiences.
