With over 25,000 accident- and incident-free flight hours, his career spans more than three decades, beginning with his first solo at age 16 and a flight instructor rating at 18. Brunjes’s professional background is distinguished by a 30-year tenure at United Airlines, where he served as a Captain, Line Check Airman, and Managing Director of Pilot Strategy. In the latter role, he was instrumental in reinventing the pilot pipeline through the development of the United Aviate program. His military experience as a Captain in the USAF Reserves flying C-141B aircraft further bolsters his deep operational expertise.
Brunjes holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with numerous type ratings, including the B-727, B-747, B-777, and B-787, as well as commercial helicopter privileges. A Gold Seal Flight Instructor and holder of an Aerospace Engineering degree from Princeton and an MBA from Kellogg, he combines technical mastery with strategic leadership. As the founder of SkyStandards, he now focuses on pilot certification and standardized testing. His evaluation style is deeply rooted in a safety-first mindset, drawing from his extensive background in Part 135 operations and corporate aviation to mentor and examine the next generation of professional pilots.
