George Bolon

Dr. George Bolon is a distinguished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and a cornerstone of the Minnesota aviation community, primarily based in Winona at Max Conrad Field (KONA). His aviation journey began in Portland, Oregon, eventually leading to a commissioned role as a Captain in the U.S. Army, where he served with the North American Air Defense Command. Since moving to Minnesota in 1968, he has seamlessly integrated his passion for flight with a prolific academic career, serving as a Professor Emeritus at Winona State University, where he was instrumental in establishing the college’s aviation program in 1974.

As the Director of Operations and Chief Pilot for Win Air, Bolon holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and has logged thousands of flight hours over a career spanning more than five decades. His expertise and contributions to the industry were professionally recognized through his induction into the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame. Bolon is also a prominent Lead Representative for the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam), specializing in instrument procedures and complex aircraft systems. Known for his meticulous safety mindset, he frequently conducts accident review seminars and serves as an expert witness in aviation litigation, ensuring that pilot training remains rooted in rigorous risk management.
