Darren Lucas is the owner and operator of Dutch Country Helicopters, a flight school and scenic tour operator based at Lancaster Airport (KLNS) in Lititz, Pennsylvania. As an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, Lucas conducts Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Instrument Rating, Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), and Flight Instructor (CFI) practical tests in helicopters. Lucas is an FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Instrument Flight Instructor (CFII) for rotorcraft, with approximately 2,000 flight hours logged specifically in the Bell 47 helicopter. Specializing in emergency procedures such as full touchdown autorotations, hovering autorotations, stuck pedals, and hydraulic failures, Lucas is recognized as a preferred instructor by aviation insurance underwriters like United Aviation. Under his leadership, Dutch Country Helicopters expanded its services for Bell 47, Hiller, and Bell 206 models by acquiring the maintenance operations of East Coast Helicopters. Lucas has been a Gold Member of the Bell 47 Helicopter Association since 2002 and supported the Liberty War Bird Association by providing hangar space and airport logistics to restore the Vietnam-era Bell UH-1H helicopter 'Huey 823.'
