Christopher Robert Peterson is a distinguished FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and a cornerstone of the South Carolina aviation community, based at Lowcountry Regional Airport (KRBW) in Walterboro. With over 30 years of flight experience, Peterson began his journey at age 15 in North Carolina and has since evolved into a highly respected evaluator and mentor. His career is marked by significant leadership roles, including serving as the Wing Commander for the South Carolina Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and managing the Aeroclub at Charleston Air Force Base, where he provided initial flight training for Navy ROTC cadets.
Holding an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and CFII rating, Peterson is recognized for his safety-first mindset, notably evidenced by a life-saving search-and-rescue mission for which he received the highest award in the Civil Air Patrol. In 2025, he was honored as the South Carolina DPE of the Year, a testament to his professionalism and commitment to the FAA’s Airman Certification Standards. As a FAASTeam Representative, he frequently leads seminars on energy management and aircraft performance. Candidates often praise his ability to create a fair, relaxed checkride environment while maintaining the rigorous oversight necessary to ensure every pilot is fundamentally safe and proficient.
