Charles "Brian" Rosenstein began his aviation journey at age 14 volunteering on the ground crew at the Flying Circus airshow in Virginia in exchange for flying lessons, eventually soloing at 16, earning his private pilot certificate at 17, his commercial pilot certificate at 18, and his flight instructor certificate at 19. Today, Rosenstein has logged approximately 19,000 flight hours and serves as an American Airlines Captain on the Airbus A320 family, based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. His commercial aviation career includes flying as a Captain and Check Airman on the Embraer 145 for ExpressJet, as well as early general aviation roles towing banners, flying skydivers, performing aerial mapping, and flying traffic watch.
Based in Stanley, North Carolina, Rosenstein was appointed as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner in 2026 under the Charlotte Flight Standards District Office. He conducts Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, and Instrument Rating practical tests in single-engine land airplanes.
Outside of his airline and DPE work, Rosenstein is highly active in the vintage aviation community. He serves as the President of the Stearman Restorers Association and is on the Board of Directors for the National Stearman Fly-In. He owns "Sweet Caroline," a restored 1943 Boeing Stearman biplane, and operates Legacy Biplane Rides out of Concord Regional Airport, providing biplane rides, tailwheel endorsements, and flight training.
