During his collegiate career, he earned his CFI, CFII, and MEI certifications and began his instructional journey before returning to Kansas City. Waterland quickly distinguished himself in the industry, becoming the youngest charter captain in his company’s history by 2009 and later serving as Chief Pilot for ATD Flight Systems.
With a diverse professional background, Waterland has served as a corporate pilot for the Wolfe Automotive Group and Airshare, specializing as a Captain in King Air and Citation XLS turbine aircraft. Today, he is widely recognized in the Kansas City FSDO for his role as a DPE, where he is noted for conducting fair and professional examinations for Private, Commercial, and Flight Instructor certificates. Maintaining a clean safety record throughout thousands of flight hours, Waterland emphasizes a disciplined, safety-oriented mindset in every checkride. His transition from a dedicated flight instructor to a senior examiner reflects a career-long commitment to elevating training standards and pilot proficiency within the National Airspace System.
