Abraham "Abe" Lloyd Fandrich is a highly distinguished aviator based in Clancy, Montana, with a professional flying career spanning over four decades. His journey in aviation began in 1976 as a mechanic for the National Guard, where he transitioned to become a certified helicopter pilot in 1980. Over the following twenty-five years, Fandrich expanded his expertise into fixed-wing aircraft, serving in diverse roles including pilot trainer, test pilot, and air rescue specialist. His extensive experience in high-stakes environments, such as aerial firefighting and emergency flood rescues, helped define a career centered on operational precision and a deep-seated commitment to safety.
Fandrich is most notably recognized for his leadership as the Chief Pilot for the United States Forest Service (USFS), a position he held until his retirement in 2021. Currently, he serves as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) for the Helena region, where he leverages thousands of hours of flight time to evaluate and certify the next generation of pilots.
